Zillow Virtual Tours
Hello, and welcome back to another Momentum Monday! Here at Momentum 360, we’re thankful for being able to continue providing our service to customers and to keep working hard.
In this week’s blog post, we’ll be talking about Zillow and their new 3D virtual tour app. Let’s get started!
Zillow
For those of you that don’t know, Zillow is an online real estate and rental marketplace. Founded in 2006 in Seattle, Zillow has since grown into one of the foremost online real estate marketplace companies.
Zillow serves every aspect of owning or living in a home including:
- Buying
- Selling
- Renting
- Financing
- Remodeling
- & More!
The Zillow database is home to over 110 million U.S. properties and offers features like home value estimates, prices of comparable homes in an area, and price changes over a certain period of time.
Zillow 3D Home App

What is the Zillow 3D Home App? Simply put, it’s an app that allows homeowners and real estate professionals to do a virtual tour of a property with their smartphone. The 3D Home App is comparable to Matterport’s 3D tour app.
The application by Zillow is free and allows homeowners to publish these tours directly to Zillow along with the listing’s home details so that buyers and renters can easily navigate and do a walk through of the property from their mobile phone or computer.
The images on the app are shot with a Ricoh Theta V 360°, an inexpensive camera that allows users to create and publish images at a low cost. These tours are very popular among users because Zillow promotes content that includes a 3D Home App tour by boosting those listings in their search results for a week.
The Zillow App is designed to be user friendly, so that even those without photography or editing experience can use it. The app’s dashboard includes viewing a tour’s metrics, options for editing, sharing, publishing, and archiving tours.
Editing
There are four main edits a user can make to their tours once they have been uploaded to the user’s dashboard. These are:
- Adding Arrows
- Moving and Deleting Arrows
- Rearranging the Order or Deleting
- Editing Room Levels and Floor Labels.
Each of these edits can be made directly within the tour by accessing the dashboard.
Sharing
There are three ways to share a virtual tour from the Zillow 3D Home App – sharing via the link, sharing editing access, and embedding an iFrame on your website.
Sharing via the link is exactly as it sounds, the app will provide the user with a link that will lead people directly to that tour and listing.
Sharing editing access allows the user to share permissions with anyone they choose. Often, photographers will share the editing access with their clients to ensure the tour is made exactly how the client wants it. By sharing in this way, all those with editing access will also be able to share, publish, and archive the tour.
Finally, there is the option to embed an iFrame to your website. iFrame is essentially a component of an HTML element that allows you to embed photos, videos, media, etc. within a website page. Doing this allows you to display a secondary webpage on your main page. The Zillow app provides the user with the HTML code to embed into their website and display the tours that way.
Benefits of the Zillow 3D Home App
According to the Zillow 3D Home App website, there are four main benefits to using the free app:
- Draw Attention
- Inform Decisions
- Clarify the Layout
- Improve the House Hunt
Drawing Attention – Real estate listings with virtual tours have a tag that makes them stand out on Zillow. Listings with a virtual tour receive, on average, twice the amount of views compared to listings without.
Informing Decisions – Listings with virtual tours allow users to envision themselves in the property much easier than still photographs do. This leads to 22% of properties with virtual tours selling in 30 days or less.
Clarifying the Layout – Photos alone don’t give viewers a realistic idea of what it is like to walk through a house. By using a virtual tour, potential buyers can actually feel like they are going from room to room.
Improving the House Hunt – Most homebuying experiences begin online. Virtual tours are extremely helpful in allowing potential buyers to decide which homes they would like to see in person.
